So Cal-guatemalan Word Of Mouth For Marimba?
If your Guatemalan living in So. Cali, I need to find a marimba. Most marimba groups, don’t make web pages or post an ad in the yellow pages. I’ve even tried cold calling any Guatemalan restaurants but haven’t had any luck so far. So now, I’m gonna try my luck on the word of mouth circuit.
I live in San Diego and work. With gas prices its really hard to find time and the $ to travel to L.A. or Inland Empire area. Even if I could, I wouldn’t know where to start looking. If you know where I should be looking, or who I could give a call, please help.
Looking to book a Marimba that plays Guatemalan music for April 18th, 2009 in Monrovia CA.
Thanks in advance!

You should definitely call some of the local colleges. Most colleges offer a music program, and 95% of music programs have marimba players. Percussion students tend to be extremely versatile and can and will play just about any style.
This time of year, college students are looking for jobs and I’m sure you could line up a bunch of marimba players through that circuit, considering there is no such thing as a college student who could use some extra money.
Too bad I’m playing marimba on the other side of the USA right now, otherwise I could be of more help!
