Is Sdsu A Good College, And Is Life After College In San Diego, having A Career And Family,?( Please Read)…?
Hello, my name is Shawn, and im a junior in high school in California, and I am strongly considering attending San Diego State University for college, and also plan to remain in San Diego after college and get a career, and have a family( I know its a little early to think about that but i am.). I plan to take courses in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, and Criminal Justice. My GPA is around 2.5 and i’ve been doing some research and it appears that i have the required GPA for my required computer classes, but i need a 2.6GPA for my criminal justice classes. I enjoy working with computers and would like to serve for my community. I’ve heard that San Diego is a great place to go to college, i’ve heard that it is a laid back place and has a decent rep as far as education goes, as well as partying( lol i don’t mind partying). Anyway, I plan to visit San Diego when my sister-in-law visits her family in San Diego. I am making up some classes which i got D’s in for a better GPA..(TBC)

I think SD is the nicest city in the country. I went to college there and loved every bit of it. But let me say a few things about your school situation.
It’s good that you are planning to raise your GPA because SDSU along with Cal Poly SLO is one of the most competitive CSU schools. I am assuming that you know about the a-g requirements and the fact that your 9th grade classes don’t count toward your GPA. Retaking classes to boost your overall GPA is definitely a good idea.
Going to a JC is an option if you don’t make it in right after high school. They have excellent transfer rates to universities in SD. However, you will spend a minimum of two years there. You may be able to do it in 1.5 years if you take summer classes but it will be a challenge. That’s because you have to complete at least 60 transferable units (about 20 classes) before you can attend SDSU. Once you graduate from high school, your high school grades and SAT scores don’t matter anymore. The good news is that you start with a clean slate.
If you sign up for a TAG (Transfer Admission Guarantee) program at the JC, you will for certain get into SDSU with a 2.4-3.0 college GPA depending on the major and UCSD with a 2.8. But those are just options you may want to consider later.
Try the best that you can. Since you have a definite goal in mind, I am sure you will work hard for it.

SDSU is a great collge. It is a little bit harder to get accepted to. You do not have the grades, not trying to be rude its just the facts. You should have a least a 3.5 to apply. If you do not I suggest maybe going to a community college first and than trying to transfer. I’m sure there are a lot of job opportunities in San Diego but I do not see why you would want to limit yourself.

SDSU is alright and SD is a very nice place, but UCSD is a better school (and engineering is one of their strong programs) You should apply to UC San Diego too.
You should try your best to bring up that GPA this year and your senior year because the higher GPA you have, the better chance of getting in you have. You also need to take the SATs (i recommend taking SAT prep classes) this year and get the highest score you can.
Another option for you is that you can go to a junior college (community college) for 2 years (2 years of JC is better because you can finish all the general ed requirements at a cheaper price) and then transfer to SDSU or UCSD. JCs also have something called a transfer agreement with the 4 year universities and a transfer agreement guarantees you a spot at the university if you complete all the requirements and get at least a certain GPA.
